David Cartlidge
David lives in the historic market town of Uttoxeter. He originally trained in engineering and this has been his main career since leaving college. He has no formal training in art, but his inspiration comes from odd shaped pieces of wood or metal, or maybe an image he has seen. He creates sculptures using a range of metals , wire and wood, all recycled from unusual sources, including farm machinery. The figure sculptures have a strong presence, with many actually lifesize.
Mae David yn byw yn nhref farchnad hanesyddol Uttoxeter. Fe dderbyniodd hyfforddiant yn wreiddiol ym maes peirianneg, a dyma fu ei brif yrfa ers iddo adael y coleg. Nid yw wedi cael unrhyw hyfforddiant celf ffurfiol, ond daw ei ysbrydoliaeth o ddarnau o bren neu fetel gyda siapiau rhyfedd, neu ddelwedd y mae wedi’i gweld. Mae’n creu cerfluniau gan ddefnyddio darnau gwahanol o fetel, gwifrau a phren, pob un wedi’u hailgylchu o ffynonellau anarferol, yn cynnwys peiriannau fferm. Mae gan y cerfluniau o ffigurau bresenoldeb cadarn, gyda nifer ohonynt yn gerfluniau maint llawn.
