Born in Carnarfon, Ian Ross draws inspiration from the rich history, culture, and landscape of North Wales. His fascination with the colours, textures, and contrasts between soft and hard edges, as well as light and shade, greatly informs his art. He is also inspired by the diverse flora and fauna of his homeland.
Ian developed an interest in art—drawing, sketching, and painting—at a young age, largely due to the encouragement he received from his teacher, William Selwyn Jones. He fondly remembers Jones's passion and enthusiasm for sharing knowledge.
Although Ian initially pursued a different career path, he returned to art in his 40s.
His contemporary interpretation of this ancient land adds drama and excitement, attracting a growing audience of admirers.
Ymagwedd Gyfoes ar Dirwedd Hynafol
Wedi’i eni yng Nghaernarfon, mae Ian Ross yn cael ei ysbrydoli gan hanes cyfoethog, diwylliant a thirwedd Gogledd Cymru. Mae ei ddiddordeb mewn lliwiau, gweadau, a chyferbyniadau rhwng ymylon meddal a chaled, yn ogystal â golau a chysgod, yn llywio ei gelf yn fawr. Mae hefyd yn cael ei ysbrydoli gan fflora a ffawna amrywiol ei famwlad.
Datblygodd Ian ddiddordeb mewn celf—arlunio, braslunio, a phaentio—yn ifanc, yn bennaf oherwydd yr anogaeth a gafodd gan ei athro, William Selwyn Jones. Mae'n cofio'n annwyl angerdd a brwdfrydedd Jones dros rannu gwybodaeth.
Er i Ian ddilyn llwybr gyrfa gwahanol i ddechrau, dychwelodd at gelf yn ei 40au.
Mae ei ddehongliad cyfoes o’r wlad hynafol hon yn ychwanegu drama a chyffro, gan ddenu cynulleidfa gynyddol o edmygwyr.
